Tumbling
(Beginning through Advanced)
Beginning Tumbling
No prior tumbling experience is required. We start at the very beginning with rolls, handstands, and cartwheels on floor developing the upper body and core strength the students will need to master these most basic skills. A main focus is building a student’s confidence of supporting her body weight while upside down and how to manage her body while upside-down and moving from being right-side-up to upside-down to right-side-up again. Students work on various pieces of training equipment such as the spring floor, trampoline, power track, resi pit and loose foam pit. Class is 55-minutes long and meets once a week.
Intermediate Tumbling
Minimum skills: mastery of forward and backward rolling, handstands, cartwheels, bridges and bridge kickovers. At this level, students are ready for more advanced skills. Cartwheels become round-offs and handstands become hop-handstands as handspring drills are introduced. Students work on back bends and back walkovers as they work to master their bodies moving backwards through space. Student will also work on these flight skills forwards. Students work on various pieces of training equipment such as the spring floor, trampoline, power track, resi pit and loose foam pit. Class is 55-minutes long and meets once a week.
Advanced Tumbling
Minimum skills: mastery of the handstand, round-off and standing back handspring unassisted. The students master back handsprings and start tumbling with speed and power. They work toward round-off back handsprings, series of back handsprings, back flips in various body positions and twisting skills. Forward tumbling and flipping is also worked in this class. Technique is constantly stressed and reinforced so these skills become the strong basics they can use to build upon to greater skills. Students work on various pieces of training equipment such as the spring floor, trampoline, power track, resi pit and loose foam pit. Class is 55-minutes long and meets once a week.
Back handspring Focus
No prior tumbling experience is required. This is where you learn that ever-so-important back handspring! You’ll do drills, drills and more drills until you have every part of the back handspring…then you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can put them together into the actual skill. At Spirits you will learn your back handspring the right way…the safe way! Students work on various pieces of training equipment such as the spring floor, trampoline, power track, resi pit and loose foam pit. Class is 55-minutes long and meets once a week.
Back tuck Focus
Minimum skills required: standing back handspring series (3 or more) and running round-off back handspring series (3 or more) with good form and technique. This class focuses on learning how to jump and set high, to use proper tuck form, to perform a standing back tuck and round-off back handspring back tucks. Students work on various pieces of training equipment such as the spring floor, trampoline, power track, resi pit and loose foam pit. Class is 55-minutes long and meets once a week.
Tumbling 4 Cheerleading
No prior tumbling experience is required. This class is a good mix of a beginning/intermediate level tumbling and a back handspring class. All of the basics are taught and built upon. However, less of a focus is spent on forward moving tumbling such as front handsprings and front flips as these are not as often required for tryouts or reaching a certain cheerleading level. Drills are used to assist the athlete in attaining the back handspring safely and with good technique.
Open Gym
Coach supervision will be provided. Limited spotting is available. Open gym is designed to allow students to enjoy the use of gym equipment at their own pace. Besides the open gym supervisor(s), the only adults allowed in the gym are those of students 5 and under. Students 5 and under must have a guardian with them to make sure they don’t impulsively run out in front of other students. Only Spirits staff are allowed to coach and spot in the gym. Failure to comply will result in both the adult and student being banned from Open Gym.
Private Lessons
Private lessons are offered for those students who prefer one on one instruction. Only Spirits staff are allowed to coach and spot during private lessons at the gym.
