Cheerleading Classes and Teams

(Training future cheerleaders for fun and competitions)

Gymnastics and Cheerleading

This is the class for students who can’t decide if they like gymnastics or cheerleading better or just don’t have the time to take both classes yet.  Students alternate between doing cheerleading activities one week and gymnastics activities the next.  Cheer activities include learning the correct technique and terminology for the basic arm motions and jumps.  Gymnastics activities include balance beam, uneven bars and vaulting.  Tumbling will take place on the floor and trampolines.  Students will work on various pieces of training equipment such as the vault, bars, beam, spring floor, trampoline, power track, resi pit and loose foam pit.  Class is 55-minutes long and meets once a week.

Cheerleading Competition Preparation Class (Soon to be called Foundations 1)

The goal of our foundations class is to introduce the cheerleaders to the basic arm motions, jumps and cheer terminology.  The cheerleaders will learn the correct technique and terminology for the basic arm motions and jumps.  Exciting cheer games will be played throughout each practice to incorporate the basic arm motions.  The girls will be introduced to two 8-counts of basic arm motions sequenced together.  Students will learn one new chant each 8-week session.  Basic tumbling skills are introduced and reviewed such as rolls, bridges, handstands and cartwheels.  The more serious student would need to enroll in an additional tumbling class to improve tumbling skills more quickly.  Students will work on various pieces of training equipment such as the spring floor, trampoline, power track, resi pit and loose foam pit.  Class is 55-minutes long and meets once a week.

Foundations 2 (Currently participating with the Foundations 1 Class)

The goal of our Foundations Plus class is to build on the strong foundation of skills the students have learned in the Foundations class.  Exciting games and drills will be used to train the students in becoming more proficient with the technique of their arm motions and jumps.  The girls will be introduced to four 8-counts of the basic arm motions sequenced together as well as incorporate a jump into their sequence.  Basic tumbling skills are built upon working towards roundoffs, back bends, kickovers and back walkovers. The more serious student would need to enroll in an additional tumbling class to improve tumbling skills more quickly.  Students will work on various pieces of training equipment such as the spring floor, trampoline, power track, resi pit and loose foam pit.  Class if 55-minutes long and meets once a week.

Cheerleading Competition Class (Soon to be called Performance) (Must be registered in a Foundations Class to take this class.  Admittance only upon coach approval.)

Our Cheerleading Competition Class is a recreational cheer group that offers the opportunity to “try out” a cheer program without all the financial and time commitments.  Cheerleaders will learn basic stunting such as kneeling double based thigh stands, thigh stand hitch pyramid, walk up table stand, etc.  Safety and technique for bases and flyers will be taught and reinforced throughout the classes.  The choreographed dance that will be taught will incorporate cheering within the dance as well as more complicated formation changes.  Jump combinations will be introduced, and daily drills and exercises will develop strength and flexibility necessary to perfect jumps and stunting.  Technique with arm motions, jumps and stunts will be practiced and continually reinforced.  Tumbling is not taught during this class.  Serious athletes will want to be enrolled in a tumbling class to improve tumbling skills and technique.  Class is 30-minutes long immediately after a Foundations Class.  Required purchases are class/exhibition uniform which are cheerleading shoes, socks, shorts and t-shirt.  This group will do local exhibitions in the community and at the gym.
